Reverence

This work is a surrealist examination of humanity’s paradoxical search for intimacy with the natural world. In seeking transformation, we overlook that we live in a world where a balanced relationship between people and the Earth hasn’t existed for hundreds of years. The figures in this piece lounge in a craggy landscape pitted with shallow pools. One lies just inside the empty cavity of a giant red fish, while the other pulls the empty-eyed head on like a mask. The fusion of man and fish exposes the contradictions in his desire for connection. The figures remain unconcerned with the brutality around them. They are content.
