Bittersweet Forest

30x40 inch acrylic on heavy duty stretched canvas with painted edges, wired and ready to hang... Trees have always been one of my favorite things to paint. This was an intersting challenge as the trees were almost secondary to the Bittersweet vines. Trees are often as individual as faces like portraits of people, but here the tree is almost the backdrop, the canvas with the Bittersweet painted upon it in lovely upward sweeps almost as how a candy cane's stripes climb up the confection. The oranges are the stars in the compositon; the blue sky their complement. The browns are the supporting characters. But then almost no plays utilize only soloists, the supporting characters are necessary to tell place, time, situation, mood and give the star a place to shine upon! I love how nothing is straight in this image, so much like life!
