On the Shore of Waikiki

30x40 acrylic on stretched, heavy duty canvas with painted edges, wired and ready to hang... On the first day of our fabulous vacation in Hawaii, we just drove around for a while, taking in as much as we could, looking at everything that was so exotic and different from where we live in New York. Tropical plants amaze me and Palm Trees are at the top of that list! We lived in California for quite a few years and the Palm Trees were my favorite! I was not surprised to see so many varieties here, but the simple, single trunk, tall Palms are something I can't get over. This was painted from a photo I took as we were being driven around and I love it so much! Funny, the water is the highlight for most folk, but the trees and the mountains were mine! Not that I didn't love the water too! I used a magenta ground color and left a lot of it showing around everything in this painting, which to me, shows the movement and heat shimmer that was everywhere. Besides magenta and lime green are two of my favorite colors!!
