This colored pencil Crucifix was an attempt at embodying my faith in a piece of art. I now realize how complicated and absurd the thought of embodying one’s faith, life, and relationship in one piece is, but the result was quite interesting. Most interesting is that I used no reference, and therefore the subject carries some resemblance to myself (I completed this while working on a self portrait series for school). There is something disturbing about seeing yourself in the crucifix. Dies it reflect an internal pride or savior concept? Does it reflect the need for sacrifice? Or, dues it reflect the representative power of Christ the priest and sacrifice who is like us in all our ways?
