This is the third piece from a colored pencil self portrait series titled The Secret Place. In this piece, the tumultuous fears and anxieties are near at hand (we are back to somewhat Miss proportioned features), but something has been taken away from the moment of peace with God found through surrender. There is a light that either shines on or Emirates from the subject, though the reality of darkness is, quite literally, near at hand. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend it.”
